Clay pigeon shooting
This is still a fast growing pursuit, both as a sport and as a form of corporate entertainment because everyone can enjoy it. Under the guidance of our trained and qualified instructors, every guest will experience the pleasure of breaking clays. Our instructor and gun fitter, Chris Miles, is a Fellow of the Association of Professional Shooting Instructors and an APSI Staff Tutor for Instructor training, Chris will concentrate his efforts on showing you how to stand correctly, how to mount the shotgun into your shoulder and what to do to consistently break clay targets. Throughout the day the shooting will take place over a range of all weather stands, which will provide different targets of varying degrees of difficulty. You will move on from basic practice up to a light hearted competition, but always with Chris and the instructors present, to give one-on-one tuition or just friendly advice and. encouragement. Low recoil cartridges are used for all to ensure that only memories remain!
Partridge and Pheasant Shoots
Pheasant shooting, in the deep valleys of Devon and Cornwall, to the pine clad dales of Yorkshire and Scotland. Most of the shooting is done between the beginning of November and the second week of January. All of our estates are capable of providing really taxing birds for the discerning gun – and the novice of game shooting will find that our team will assist with tuition and friendly advice. Bags are in excess of two hundred birds per day; bags over four hundred are normally shot with double guns and a loader.
Duck shooting in Ireland
Ireland is a traditionally a sporting country with bountiful stock migratory game fowl, private country houses and the best shooting in the country. The shooting days will be centred on a fabulous duck shoot, snipe and woodcock all excellent quality shooting. We can arrange flights to Belfast, transport to and from the accommodation.
With less experience of game shooting will find that our resident team will assist with tuition and friendly advice.
Working Gun Dog
One of the pleasures of being involved in the shooting world is to see working gun dogs doing what they love best. Sound basic obedience training leads to learning all the different aspects of retrieving quarry in the various live game shooting situations.
Professional gun dog trainers bring out the best in their dogs and Guests have close contact with the friendly and approachable dogs, and learn about and participate in training methods from simple obedience to challenging retrieves. There is also a complex agility course to be completed as a team relay against the clock. Always a popular part of the Country Pursuits event.
Muzzle loading
Let’s take you back to the 19th century…. Although original guns may be up to 200 years old you will be amazed at how well they handle and perform….so try you your hand at clay pigeon shooting with these wonderful old guns and enjoy.
Laser clay shooting
Laser clay shooting is a sport which can be enjoyed by everyone, and any age. We have systems for indoor use or out in the field. Guests use a modified shotgun to fire an infrared beam, when the trigger is pulled, scoreboard generates the shotgun 'bang' and when a player hits the target it reproduces the sound of a breaking clay.
